  • An Outpatient Physiotherapy Screening Clinic is available at Gold Coast Health. These children maybe streamed for a first review.

Minimum Referral Criteria

Category 1
  • No category 1 criteria
Category 2
  • Abnormal spine examination – abnormal neurological exam
Category 3
  • Asymmetrical deformity and/or functional difficulties
  • Unable to dorsi-flex feet beyond neutral, stand with heels down or walk on heels
  • Signs of cerebral palsy with hypertonia, hyperreflexia or ataxia
  • Calf hypertrophy
  • Associated developmental delay

If your patient doesn't meet the minimum referral criteria

  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service.

Essential Referral Information

  • Clinical history and examination including key points:
    • evolution and duration of symptoms
    • treatment prescribed (analgesics, physiotherapy)
    • current and past medical history and medications
    • relevant family history i.e. hereditary neurological condition
  • Neurological examination – Horner’s test

If a specific test result cannot be obtained due to access, financial, religious, cultural or consent reasons a clinical override may be requested. This reason must be clearly articulated in the body of the referral.
