Useful Management Information

An Outpatient Physiotherapy Screening Clinic is available at Gold Coast Health. These children may be streamed for a first review.
Assure parents the condition is self-limiting symptoms and condition which will resolve with skeletal maturity.
Modify activities which increase pain, provide quadriceps stretching exercises.
Treatment of anti-inflammatory response – (rest, ice, pain relief)
Osgood Schlatter is a traction apophysitis where there is pinpoint tenderness, and inflammation over the tibial tubercle, any deviation may not be Osgood Schlatter and warrant further investigation.

Minimum Referral Criteria

Category 1	Suspected infection or bone disease
Category 2	Increased pain associated with acute knee injury
Category 3	Symptoms not resolving with maximal conservative treatment Symptoms persisting > 18 months
If your patient doesn't meet the minimum referral criteria If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested: Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.) Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service.
